How To Apply Your Primer Like a Pro

LEARN HOW TO APPLY PRIMER, THE ULTIMATE MAKEUP ARTIST TRICK, TO KEEP YOUR MAKEUP LOOKING FRESH ALL DAY LONG.

A flawless face is the basis of every great makeup look, and while a great skincare regimen, foundation and concealer work wonders, makeup artists have another trick up their sleeves for stunning skin: primer.
If you’re not familiar with makeup primers then let us give you a, um, primer. These silky soft creams and gels are meant to be applied underneath your makeup to guarantee perfect foundation application by filling in fine lines and smoothing out uneven texture. As an added benefit, they also keep your makeup looking fresh all day.
These pro products have come a long way in the past decade, moving from the makeup artist’s kit to your vanity, and come in a mindboggling array of choices. Keep reading for everything you ever wanted to know about these perfect-skin essentials.
Pick Your Primer
Primers are so beloved by experts because they can do so much more than just make your foundation go on smoother. Primers are sort of like insurance for your makeup. Although they often wear many hats — smoothing, concealing, protecting and prepping — their main roles are to keep your makeup on longer and give your skin a smooth, flawless finish. Any fading, bleeding or blotchy behavior that can occur throughout the day can be prevented with the use of a little bit of primer under your foundation. As an added bonus, many primers now are infused with SPF, so they keep your skin protected while lending radiance. Here are a few of our favorite types:
Fenty Pro Filter primer

The texture of the primer is very lightweight and feels ultra comfortable on the skin. It has a gel-like consistency. It does not feel heavy or sticky at all and also does not leave any residue behind. Just a little amount goes a long way. I need just one-and-half pump to prep my face properly. The primer is super easy to blend even with fingers. It spreads on the skin effortlessly and blends really well within a few seconds. It melts with the warmth of my skin and sinks into it without much effort. It gives a soft matte finish to the skin. It does not cast any oily sheen behind, but after a few hours of application, I do observe a light sheen on my skin, which I believe is pretty normal for my combination-oily skin. Purchase here
Maybelline Baby Pores Primer

I apply a very small amount and smooth it over all the areas where I want to minimize my pores. Instantly, it seems as if this product completely blurs my imperfections. It is truly remarkable and gives me such satisfying results. Obviously, it does not completely hide it because it is a complete clear formula, but this primer blurs it enough for when I apply my foundation, I can not see my pores at all. It leaves that area very smooth and soft and applying makeup over it does not shift the product. My skin completely absorbs it.
Becca Perfecting Primer

This primer is very good for oily skin ,I do have oily skin in my T Zone ,so this is very good on my oily areas The moment you dab this product on to your skin, that portion of skin will instantly mattify, so far so good. On this, you apply your  the foundation, you have to ensure that you do not end up moving the layer of primer underneath – else it will pill.
This primer keeps your face matte all through and minimise your pores and keeps your face smooth.I will definitely recommend this primer for oily skin .

How To Apply Primer
Once you’ve found your ideal primer, you need to master the fine art of application. The first rule of primer? Always apply moisturizer before priming, as it makes your primer application even. Wait a few minutes after your application before priming.
Makeup artist Elle Leary gave us this tip for applying your primer: “A little bit goes a long way. Start in the center of the face and work your way out — you want a light coverage, not heavy.”

Beauty guru Tim Quinn recommends applying with your fingertips or a sponge and avoiding the eye area. Once your primer is on, allow a few minutes for it to set before applying foundation.
So if you never thought of using a primer — or thought they might be too much extra work in your already time-strapped routine — hopefully this has made you reconsider. Because if you want your makeup to go the extra mile, you need to be sure to provide a solid starting line.
